International Learning: VGU Welcomes German Flying Faculty for Core Materials Science Courses
In October 2025, the Master of Science in Materials Science (MSI) program at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) proudly welcomed three distinguished flying faculty members from Germany to lead core teaching and lab-integration modules.
Their arrival represents the robust, structural partnership between VGU, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU), and the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute (IMWS), ensuring our students receive an internationally accredited, top-tier German engineering education directly on our Binh Duong campus.
✈️ Meet Our German Flying Faculty & Core Courses
During this intensive block semester, students from the MSI Intake 2024 and Intake 2025 cohorts engaged with leading experts across metallic and polymer material classes:
⚙️ Metals & Structural Mechanics
- Dr. Sebastian Hütter (Research Associate, OVGU Magdeburg)
- Dr. Georg Hasemann (Chair of Metallic Materials, OVGU Magdeburg)
- Core Topics: High-temperature superalloys, advanced dislocation dynamics, crystal lattice defects, and deformation mechanisms.
🧪 Advanced Polymer Materials
- Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Sven Henning (Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS)
- Core Topics: Polymer physics, molecular structure-property relationships, polymer matrix composites, and microstructural failure analysis.
!NOTEWhy Flying Faculty Matter: Having active German researchers deliver block lectures and supervise laboratory runs ensures VGU students are exposed to current global standards. This close contact also fosters direct relationships, helping students secure funded master thesis spots and research projects in Germany.
🤝 Building a Global Scientific Network
This morning, our faculty members joined the MSI 2024 and MSI 2025 students for a memorable campus photo session, capturing the vibrant spirit of international partnership, scientific curiosity, and academic excellence that defines VGU.
We extend a warm welcome to our German colleagues and wish our students an inspiring and transformative semester!
